Sam Paul Toms is a London-based composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist writing music for film, television and other visual media. His work blends organic and electronic sounds, combining distinctive instrumentation with contemporary production to create music that is atmospheric, expressive and emotionally resonant.
Sam’s music moves between intimate acoustic writing, hybrid scores, playful orchestral textures and more experimental work, often responding to character-led stories and distinctive visual worlds. He’s drawn to projects where sound, image and narrative are closely connected, where texture and atmosphere carry as much weight as melody and harmony.
Alongside composing, Sam has worked in visual effects editorial across feature films and television for over a decade. His credits include large-scale productions such as Star Wars and Mission: Impossible, as well as acclaimed films including The Revenant and The Zone of Interest. Time spent working with directors such as Jonathan Glazer and Steve McQueen has given him a close understanding of visual storytelling, pacing and the relationship between sound and image. This experience continues to shape his approach to writing for picture.
Whether working from the earliest stages of a project or responding to a finished cut, Sam aims to create music that feels inseparable from the story it serves.
